An underclassman at Harvard University Jon Schecter recorded a rap album, BMOC(Big Men on Campus), that was picked up by a label owned by Brett Ratner with a distribution deal with Sire Records.
Schecter, with David Mays, another Harvard student who DJed at the campus radio station founded the Source magazine in 1988. The Source magazine began as a two-page newsletter published for $2.50 out of a Cambridge dorm. By the time the Source moved to New York in the early 90's, it had grown into a color monthly.
