in to the wild-ness...

Bags were packed, blankets were rolled up, and the tent was dusted off and loaded into the car. In route to Jim Thorpe, Pa. to go camping for the weekend at a site that is dog friendly. So the journey began as 4 city slickers (2 human...2 k-9) ascending from South Philly, Pa. on a wilderness venture with our 2 dogs headed north to the foot of the Pocono mountains to an area called Jim Thorpe, named after one of my favorite american (also native american) athletes. Well, back to the trail..... we drove about 2 hours to get there with autumn's annual wrath as our scenery, the trees were posing as earths skeletal with almost no signs of life left. The colors were almost all browns up north already, the greens have been stolen from the foliage and the browns have staked their claim. Now, camping is fun, and it's been a few moons since I've been, so that in itself was exciting, but my Meliss had an even more thrilling plan for our outdoor escapade. Lately she has been really having fun Letterboxing, and geocaching, so she planned a side venture to our camping trip that had us navigating through nature in search of hidden treasures. I have been on a few missions with meliss before, and I really had fun, letterboxing is an interesting mix of things I like all packaged into a neat little pastime, almost like it's a mature legal version of all the things that interest me! We found some really neat stuff, It's usually all hand made and all the stamps are hand carved out of an old rubber school eraser, people are pretty creative with their pen names and icons to help accentuate the name. and it really was the icing on the cake to a great weekend getaway from the city blues...
